NIHD Board of Directors Candidate Filing Opens July 13

The Nov. 3, 2026, General Election will include four seats on the Northern Inyo Healthcare District Board of Directors. The NIHD Board of Directors is the governing body responsible for establishing District policy, providing financial oversight, and helping guide the long-term direction of Northern Inyo Healthcare District.
The following director positions will appear on the ballot:
- Zone 1 – One two-year term, currently held by Maggie Egan
- Zone 2 – One two-year term, currently held by Jean Turner
- Zone 3 – One four-year term, currently held by Laura Smith
- Zone 5 – One four-year term, currently held by Melissa Best-Baker
Qualified candidates must be registered voters and reside within the boundaries of the zone they wish to represent.
The candidate filing period is Monday, July 13, through Friday, Aug. 7, 2026. Nomination forms will be available beginning July 13 at the Inyo County Elections Office in Independence. Individuals interested in filing, obtaining nomination forms, or learning more about the process should contact the Inyo County Elections Office at (760) 878-0224.
If there are no nominees, or an insufficient number of nominees for an office, and no petition calling for an election is filed within the prescribed time period, appointments to those offices will be made in accordance with California Elections Code § 10515.
