About Chris

Chris Rowan originally began his work career as an engineer. His desire to help his community led him to Philadelphia's Drexel University, where he completed his medical degree. After completing his residency in Internal Medicine at University of Washington, he relocated to Albuquerque for his Fellowship in Cardiology at University of New Mexico.

Dr. Rowan lives in Reno, Nevada where he has practiced Cardiology for almost a decade. A passion for flying allows Dr. Rowan to serve NIHD patients several days each month.

Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the National Board of Echocardiography, Dr. Rowan specializes in heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, as well as preventative cardiology, general cardiology, and lipidology.

He hold memberships in the American College of Cardiology, the Society for Cardiac CT, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, and the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.

In 2014 he was invited on a research expedition to the Bolivian rainforest. The multinational team, including major research universities from the United States, studied the indigenous Tsimane people. This study has revolutionized the understanding of the natural history of heart disease and aging in a pre-industrialized society.

​In 2015 he was invited to join in groundbreaking research on heart disease in mummies. To date, the findings have proven that heart disease has been present in humans for well over 4,000 years. Dr. Rowan participated in five of these research studies, with the most recent being in 2022 to La Paz, Bolivia.
