NIHD names veteran healthcare executive Interim CEO

Northern Inyo Healthcare District’s Board of Directors has appointed veteran healthcare executive Christian Wallis as its Interim Chief Executive Officer.

Wallis brings more than 30 years of healthcare leadership experience in public health, hospital systems, and the U.S. Navy Medical Service Corps. Most recently, he served as CEO of Grossmont Healthcare District in San Diego County, where he led efforts to improve access to care, reduce hospital re-admissions, and expand regional emergency services.

NIHD Board Chair Jean Turner said Wallis would serve in the interim role through the summer, giving the NIHD Board of Directors time to focus on recruiting a permanent CEO.

“Mr. Wallis brings a collaborative leadership style and deep experience in healthcare operations,” Turner said. “We’re confident he will provide strong support to the District as we plan for our future.”

The Board also extended its gratitude to Chief Operations and Nursing Officer Allison Partridge, who has served as Acting CEO for the past few weeks.

“We are deeply thankful for Ms. Partridge’s steady leadership during this transition,” Turner said. “We also appreciate the dedication and support of the entire NIHD Executive and leadership teams.”

Wallis is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration. He has taught graduate courses in healthcare informatics and operations at Northwestern University and is known for building high-performing teams and community health partnerships.

“It’s an honor to serve Northern Inyo Healthcare during this important time,” Wallis said. “I’ve long admired the resilience and dedication found in rural healthcare, and I look forward to working alongside the team to support continuity, elevate care, and help lay the groundwork for the District’s next chapter.”
